Adoption Leave Procedure

Posted on

Eligible police officers and police staff are entitled to take paid leave when a child is newly placed for adoption. Within the context of this procedure a ‘child’ is a person under the age of 18 years.

The principles underpinning these procedures can be found in the Working Arrangements and Flexibility Policy.

Adoption leave and pay will be available to:

  • Individuals who adopt.
  • One member of a couple where a couple adopt jointly, including those who work for different organisations (the couple may choose which partner takes adoption leave).
  •  In normal circumstances, the person applying for Adopters Leave and Pay, will have responsibility for the upbringing of the adopted child or children.
  • Surrogate Parents, who can show a court Parental Order in accordance with S.54 of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008.
