Discipline Guidance for Police Staff
This guidance has been produced to assist managers in deciding how and when to use the Staff Discipline Procedure to manage the conduct of members of staff.
For the purposes of the Discipline Procedure North Yorkshire Police (NYP) distinguishes between behaviour on the basis of capability (performance) and conduct (discipline) as follows:
Conduct: Where an employee through personal choice WILL NOT meet the required standards
Capability: Where an employee, for whatever reason CANNOT meet the required standards
The conduct of members of staff are key elements in the delivery of a quality policing service.
