Joint enableNY, NYFRS and NYP Awards and Recognition Procedure

Posted on

This procedure sets out the mechanisms for recognising employees, volunteers and staff as well as members of the public.
There are four types of award / recognition covered within this procedure, namely:

1. Internal Annual Awards and Commendations
2. Long Service and Good Conduct
3. Sovereign’s Awards and Garden Parties
4. External Awards and Recognition

This procedure will set out the process for the awards/recognition that are available, together with the nominations and presentation processes.

Information and Process
Acts of bravery, outstanding resourcefulness, innovation, inspiration, or application of skills, often occurs during our day to day work. It is important that recognition is given, and so these acts and skills must be properly identified and recorded. Nominations are encouraged to ensure that exceptional work is correctly rewarded and recognised. The Annual Awards are the highest internal awards that can be bestowed.
Nominations can be submitted on-line using the e-forms provided on the NYFRS or NYP intranet sites. When submitted, the nomination is automatically forwarded for authorisation and if authorised, this is then forwarded to the Awards Team for shortlisting. If the nomination is not authorised then the decision is for the authoriser as to whether to reject the nomination or to write a letter of appreciation.

The Awards Team will evaluate and shortlist the authorised nominations. Nominees will receive a Certificate of Commendation, and if shortlisted they may also be put forward to the Honours Committee, who will then make the final decision as to the winners of the annual awards. The winners are then invited to the Awards Ceremony to be presented with their awards. The Honours Committee comprises Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Chief Fire Officer, Chief Constable, Managing Director of enableNY, and any award sponsors. Runners up at the Honours Committee will receive Certificates of Commendation.
