Staff Discipline Procedure
The Staff Discipline Procedure is intended to improve overall conduct. It may be appropriate in some conduct issues to instigate supportive management action before the formal procedure is started. It is envisaged that early intervention via supportive management action should achieve the desired effect of improving and maintaining an individual’s conduct to an acceptable level and may result in the matters being finalised at an early stage.
The supportive action should take the form of a discussion between the Line Manager and the individual over how best to resolve the relevant issue. During an informal meeting, the line manager will be expected to inform the individual of the consequences of further misconduct or insufficient improvement i.e. potential instigation of the formal discipline procedure.
Line managers are expected to take notes of such discussions and confirm actions/outcomes to the individual.
If it becomes apparent during an informal supportive action meeting that the conduct is of more a serious nature, the session must be stopped immediately and advice sought from Human Resources (HR).Last modified: October 5, 2018 [application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document]
