FOI 1133-2024/25 Image Enhancement

Q1. Which department deals with image enhancement?

Q2. Which software is used when dealing with image enhancement or photographs?

Q3. If you do not use the software Amped, have you heard of it and why do you not use it?

Q4. How often does your force deal with AI generated images or images that have potentially been enhanced/changed?

Q5. What training is required in order to use the software mentioned in question 2, if any?

Q6. What challenges have you faced, if any, when dealing with image enhancement and how did you overcome these?

Q7. What challenges do you believe could occur due to image enhancement?

Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information
In order to locate relevant information relating to your request,  we have liaised with our Regional Scientific Support Team.   

Decision
I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.

Q1. The Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS) covering North, South, West Yorkshire and Humberside.

Q2. Amped5.

Q3. Not Applicable.

Q4, 6 & 7. No information held. Section 84 of Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) relates to recorded information held by a public authority and that it does not extend to providing explanations unless the answers are already held in a recorded form. 

"Information is defined in section 84 of the Act as 'information recorded in any form'. The Act therefore only extends to requests for recorded information. It does not require public authorities to answer questions generally; only if they already hold the answers in recorded form. The Act does not extend to requests for information about policies or their implementation, or the merits or demerits of any proposal or action - unless, of course, the answer to any such request is already held in recorded form." (Day vs ICO & DWP – EA/2006/0069 Final Decision).
