Request
Q1. What is your process for logging the ages of perpetrators aged 18 and under for sexually violent crimes, in particular rape and sexual assaults.
Q2. Do you log the details of every perpetrator aged 18 and under, or is the data provided just where it has been logged, but the force doesn't log it routinely.
Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information
To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police.
I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by North Yorkshire Police.
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.
Q1 & 2. It is a requirement to log the date of birth of all perpetrators for all crimes, regardless of age. The exception to this is where the perpetrator is not known or cannot be identified. The data provided in response to FOI 0844.2024-25 is where the date of birth had been logged and the age at the time of the offence showed the perpetrator to be aged 18 or under.
Please note that systems used for recording information are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. It should be noted therefore that this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other responses you may receive.
