Q1. I would like to make an FOI request to find out the number of drivers that have received fines for driving without a valid MOT certificate.

• I would like the data to include how much money the fine was for and whether the fine has been paid or if it was dismissed.
• Please provide data for the last 12 months (July 2024 – August 2025).

Decision

I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.

Q1. Please see the table below the number of fixed penalty offences for Use a motor vehicle on a road without a valid test certificate between 01 July 2024 and 31 July 2024, broken down by disposal option.

*Please note that due to the offence dates, some of the “unpaid” cases still have time available to comply with the fixed penalty. If matters are referred to court, the magistrate may choose to increase/decrease the fine and may also incur additional charges for court costs and victim surcharge where applicable. Of the unpaid cases, 100 have either been sent to court or are in the process of a file being prepared for court.

The fixed penalty for the offence “Use a motor vehicle on a road without a valid test certificate” is non endorsable and has a standard fine of £100.
