We would like this data in respect of the following time periods: (1) April 2014 to March 2015, (2) April 2015 to March 2016, (3) April 2016 to March 2017, (4) April 2017 to March 2018, (5) April 2018 to March 2019, (6) April 2019 to March 2020, (7) April 2020 to March 2021, (8) April 2021 to March 2022, (9) April 2022 to March 2023, (10) April 2023 to March 2024 (11) April 2024-March 2025.
Q1. We ask that you provide the total number of outcomes recorded for the period (sexual offences and of which rape) as well as the number of outcomes recorded in that period where the date the victim reported, to the date the Police outcome was recorded falls into the below time frames:

Please note that the following factors may have an impact on the length of an investigation:
- If an intermediary is required then this request needs to be submitted to the national centre for a match, the assessment then needs to take place and then the visual recorded interview can take place. The time of this process varies depending on the victims, intermediaries, and/or other parties’ availability.
- There may be a requirement for forensic testing and staged submission as part of the investigation, which is an agreed regional process.
- Digital devices may require examination. This has resulted in a delay in past investigations, however, the turnaround time is now significantly reduced.
- As part of the suspect digital device extraction, other offences may be identified. This can impact on the timeliness of an investigation.
- Investigator numbers. North Yorkshire Police have now addressed this by way of a crime re-structure in CI/SIT.
- On some occasions an investigation may be closed due to the victim not seeking a procedural outcome. However, if the victim then seeks a procedural outcome at a later date, the crime is re-opened, which can have an impact on the above data.
