Q1. Please provide data showing how many report of shootings your force has received between 2020-2025. Please break data down per year. For the year 2025, please provide data as close to the present date as possible.

Please search for the terms "gunshot", "gun shot", "shooting", "firearm", "bullet", "shot".

A shooting is defined as the act of discharging a firearm.

Q2. Please also provide data showing how many firearms you have recovered and confiscated between 2020-2025. Please break data down per year. For the year 2025, please provide data as close to the present date as possible.

Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information

To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police.

I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.

Q1. Please see the table below showing Crimes recorded between 1^st January 2020 and 28^th August 2025 where one of the following words are recorded in the occurrence summary or MO remarks: gunshot, gun shot, shooting, firearm, bullet, shot.

A manual review would be needed to establish if the above related specifically to a shooting which would trigger an excess cost response.

*Please note that a key-word search has been conducted, and therefore the accuracy of these results relies on an Officer recording the specific wording in a field. For example, the word “shot” can be used in several different scenarios that may not relate to a firearm e.g. ‘’screenshot’’.

Q2. Please see the table below showing occurrences reported between 1^st January 2020 and 28^th August 2025 where there is a ‘firearm’ linked as one of the following: seized, evidence, recovered by police, safekeeping.

Please note that systems used for recording information are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  It should be noted therefore that this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other responses you may receive.
