Who can apply
North Yorkshire Police welcomes applications from young people of all abilities and backgrounds.
You do not need any experience, skills or qualifications. What we ask is that you commit to attending regularly, and to striving to develop yourself and improving your community.
North Yorkshire Police will seek to maintain a balanced unit providing a healthy mix of boys and girls across the full age range, ethnic and social groups.
Can I apply if I am not of UK nationality?
You can still apply if you do not hold UK nationality. Consideration will be given to how long you have been resident in the UK and to any restrictions which apply to your stay in the UK. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Do I have to have any qualifications or skills ?
You do not need any experience, skills or qualifications. What we do ask is that you commit to attending regularly, and to striving to develop yourself and improve your community.
Can I still join if I have a disability or specific needs?
North Yorkshire Police welcomes applications from young people of all abilities and backgrounds. If a recruit has special requirements then these will be accommodated wherever possible.
Can I still join if I have been in trouble with the police?
All potential cadets will be vetted during the recruitment process. The purpose of this vetting is not to routinely exclude any young person from membership, but to allow management of any risk that is highlighted. These checks will be carried out by North Yorkshire Police and any issues will be highlighted to the Volunteer Police Cadet Coordinator to determine if the potential risk is manageable.
Depending on the type and level of offending – cautions, reprimands, final warnings and minor convictions will not necessarily prevent a young person from joining. What is important is their desire to engage, their commitment to the scheme and their desire to develop themselves.
I am too old to join what else can I do?
There are other volunteering opportunities within North Yorkshire Police including the Special Constabulary and Police Support Volunteers. Details can be found on the North Yorkshire Police website. As a Police Support Volunteer you could also consider becoming a Volunteer Cadet Leader.
