Force Control Room
Our Force Control Room is based at Fulford Road Police Station in York and is at the heart of policing across North Yorkshire - 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year.
Our dedicated team work shifts over a 24 hour period to answer all emergency 999 calls and non-emergency 101 calls, as well as deploying resources to police incidents across North Yorkshire.
Made up of around 200 permanent members of staff, the Force Control Room takes an average of 1200 calls a day. Despite that, no two calls are ever quite the same. One minute you could be noting down the details of a stolen vehicle. The next, you might be taking a report of a sudden death.
Whatever the situation we always strive to provide the highest quality of service to our customers.
Recruitment closed on 17 September 2017 but keep an eye on this web page for future opportunities.
As a member of the team, you will be at the centre of policing in North Yorkshire and will find yourself dealing with incidents that most people will not come across in their lifetime.
You will encounter distressing situations, life-threatening situations and very sad situations. However, it is a hugely rewarding job where no two days are alike and you will feel an immense sense of satisfaction knowing you have helped someone at one of the worst times of their life
There will also be routine jobs to deal with such as administration tasks associated with the role.
You’ll be part of the wider policing family helping to keep North Yorkshire safe as well as part of a team of great people. Most people join the police service because they want to help others and make a difference to people’s lives. Working in the Force Control Room, there is no doubt that you will be making a difference – every day.
If you’re interested in joining the team, we’re looking for motivated people who are excellent team players with the ability to work unsupervised and use their own initiative.
In particular, if you have excellent communication skills, customer service skills and IT skills with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure along with empathy and resilience, then you could be an excellent addition to the team.
We encourage applications from under-represented groups and through Positive Action, you could get pre-application assistance if you have one or more of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. Click here for more information about Positive Action
