Within the Selby District we run our project Alternate as a means to increase awareness about excessive drinking with the night time economy. Please follow this link to view our advice, videos and read the survey of Selby drinkers who provided breath test samples to researchers from York St John University.
North Yorkshire Community Messaging is a free messaging system for North Yorkshire that allows you to register to receive the latest crime notifications and community news happening in your local neighbourhood. The service has been designed to allow people who live in North Yorkshire to get information when they want, and how they want it. There is the ability to tailor your preferences for the type of messages you want and for what locations. It provides information on:
- Crime and other police incidents, including missing people and witness appeals.
- Rural policing, including crimes against farms and rural businesses.
- Anti-social behaviour.
- Road safety, including road closures and traffic updates.
- Neighbourhood news and events, such as invitations to public meetings.
To receive messages about the Selby area please register to community messaging. You can also follow us on Facebook to see what we are doing.
Our dedicated volunteers patrol their communities around the southern are of the Selby Rural to deter crime and anti-social behaviour and engage with the local community.
They use a dedicated marked ‘Rural Watch’ car and since it started on 19th December 2014, the car has been out 146 times for a total of 643 hours. There have been 61 reported incidents/community visits and of course these number continue to increase.
A North Yorkshire Police wide operation to utilise all our local knowledge together with specialist resources, Road Crime Teams, Firearms Teams and Road Policing teams to target travelling criminals.
