Protecting Vulnerable People
The York North Safer Neighbourhood team are dedicated to protecting vulnerable people, especially young people who are at risk of being exploited.
Members of the team have received additional training to ensure that they can pro-actively tackle issues and support victims and families. Officers are also working with the Fire Service to visit vulnerable elderly people, to ensure that they are safe in their homes.
Anti-social behaviour is a common issue in the City of York and we are working hard to control it in partnership with City of York Council. At the centre of this work is the multi-agency ASB Hub which is designed to tackle the issue from all angles.
We have regular operations to target anti-social behaviour in the city centre. It works by using drug dogs, working with licensing officers and patrolling common hotspots of anti-social behaviour. We will use all available powers to ensure York is a safe and pleasant place for everyone.
Bicycles are a very popular mode of transport in the City of York and, due to the sheer numbers, attract a lot of criminals in the area looking for easy opportunities to steal them.
Operation Spoke takes a partnership approach when tackling bicycle crime and has recently allowed us to make many arrests and the recovery of stolen bikes.
My team of officers, PCSOs and Special Constables patrol the areas where bikes are stored in the city and they offer crime prevention advice on bicycle security including bike marking.
