Appeal for information after a serious assault on a man on Bootham in York

Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted on Bootham in York.

Police were contacted at 5.45am Wednesday 24 October 2018 to a report of a man who had been assaulted and received serious injuries to his face, as he and his girlfriend walked along Bootham. Following the assault, the couple fled to Gillygate where they contacted police.

Police attended and Gillygate and portion of Bootham were closed to allow Crime Scene Officers to conduct a thorough investigation of the area.

Police enquiries have found that the victim first encountered the suspect at around 3am near Bar 1331 and VUDU lounge in York City Centre. At 5.45am the couple again encountered the suspect on Bootham, where the assault took place.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6ft of medium build wearing dark clothing.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, the suspect or the couple making off in the direction of Bootham to contact them. They are also appealing to passing motorists who were in the area who may have capture dash-cam footage of the incident, to contact them.
