Appeal for witnesses of an assault on Exhibition Square, York

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about an assault that occurred on Exhibition Square in York.

It happened at approximately 6pm 21 September 2019 and is alleged to have involved a group of youths attacking an exchange student from Hong Kong.

The incident happened when a bus was at the bus stop at the bottom of the square and people were close by waiting to get on.

The student did not suffer any serious injuries but police are investigating the motivation for the attack and are looking for witnesses who may know the group or who are able to provide descriptions.

We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In particular, we are appealing for information about the group. They are described as being white, manly male, aged in their late teens or early 20s, and thought to be drunk.
