Body found near Captain Cook’s Monument

At around 9pm on Saturday 17 April, North Yorkshire Police received a report concerned for the safety of a woman in Great Ayton.

Officers attended an area near to Captain Cook’s Monument along with Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team. Sadly, the body of a woman in her 20s was located in the area in the early hours of Sunday 18 April.

The woman’s family have been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a report will be prepared for the coroner for an inquest at a later date.
