Fatal collision at Escrick near Selby

We can now confirm that a woman has died following the collision on the A19 near Escrick earlier today (31 December 2019)

It happened just before 2pm and involved two cars travelling in opposite directions.

The woman was a passenger in one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene, the male driver of the vehicle was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.

The four occupants of the other car were taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the casualties and to allow investigators to examine the scene. As at 5.50pm, it remains closed to allow the surface to be cleaned before it can be reopened.
