A 34-year-old woman has been charged to court in connection with the suspected arson incident on Springfield Grove, Boroughbridge, at around 11pm on Thursday (15 May 2025).
It resulted in one bungalow being destroyed and two others being damaged.
Following enquiries, the suspect was arrested on Saturday evening and she has been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.
She has been remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Monday (19 May 2025), 9.15am, court room 1, case reference 12NY0615725.
Original appeal issued on 16 May 2025
We were called just after 11pm last night (Thursday 15 May 2025) to reports of a fire at an address on Springfield Grove in Boroughbridge.
We attended along with Fire Crews and the Ambulance Service. Nobody was in the property at the time of the incident.
Following an examination of the scene by police crime scene investigators and fire investigation officers, it is now believed that the fire was started deliberately. The fire is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
We are now appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident that witnessed anything suspicious to come forward. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has captured dashcam footage or ring doorbell footage. If you can help, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 12250087306.
A cordon remains in place at the scene to allow investigation work to continue. We believe that this is an isolated incident and have increased high visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.
