***UPDATE***Witness appeal after cyclist injured in serious collision in York

The cyclist who was injured in a collision on Holgate Road yesterday evening (Sunday 7 April 2019), has sadly died.

The man, aged 51 from York, died in hospital this afternoon. 

We are not yet in a position to release the identity of the man. 

Police urge any witnesses who have not yet come forward to get in touch. Please dial 101, press 1 and pass information to the force control room quoting reference 12190062550. 


On Sunday 7 April 2019, at 7.15pm, police were called to a report of a collision on Holgate Road, York, involving a cyclist and a parked car.

The cyclist, a local man in his 50s, was treated at the scene for serious head injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, where he remains in a critical condition. His next of kin have been informed.

Following the collision, the road was closed for a number of hours to allow police to examine the scene.

North Yorkshire Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the cyclist involved. He was riding a yellow cycle, and wearing a grey sports top, blue cargo trousers and a khaki baseball cap.
