Woman charged with shoplifting after car intercepted in Helmsley

A Somerset woman has been charged with two counts of theft following reports of shoplifting in York and Helmsley.

On the afternoon of 10 January 2019, police received a report of theft from Asda in Monks Cross, York, followed by a second report of theft from Fat Face in Helmsley.

Observations were circulated for a vehicle linked to the suspects which was intercepted at around 2.30pm in Helmsley market place.

A man and a woman, both from Watchet in Somerset were arrested. The woman, 33, has been charged with two counts of theft and is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 14 February 2019.

The man, 34, remains in police custody.

The vehicle was seized along with a number of items of suspected stolen clothing.
