The last thing you want to do when you go on holiday is worry about what's happening at home. We've put together our top home security tips to follow before you set off to help minimise the risk of a break-in.

  1. Make your home looked lived in – use a timer to turn lights and radios on and off

  2. Ask a trusted neighbour to open and close your curtains each day

  3. Mow the lawn and tidy the garden

  4. Cancel milk, newspaper or other regular deliveries

  5. Lock sheds, garages and windows – and doors of course

  6. Place important documents in a home safe or deposit them in a bank

  7. Give contact details to a neighbour in case of emergency – and ensure they know your return date

  8. Let trusted neighbours park on your drive if you have one

  9. Don’t display your home address on your luggage tag

  10. Don’t discuss holiday plans in the presence of strangers or post details on social media
