Change of address

Condition 3 of both a Firearm and Shotgun certificate states - 'the holder of the certificate must, without undue delay, inform the chief officer of police by whom the certificate was granted of any change of their permanent address'.

If your move involves a change in your permanent home address:

Within North Yorkshire

  • Inform the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department in writing, or by email, of your new permanent address and contact details, also confirming your security has been installed and for Firearms, any change in your nominated land.
  • Forward your original current certificate(s), copies cannot be accepted.

Out of North Yorkshire

  • Inform the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department in writing, or by email, of your new permanent address and contact details.
  • DO NOT include any current certificates.
  • Your file will be transferred to the police force where you now live. They will request your current certificates for replacement.

Into North Yorkshire

  • Inform your existing Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department in writing, or by email, of your new permanent address and contact details.
  • DO NOT include any current certificates.
  • Your file will be transferred to North Yorkshire Police and we will request your current certificates for replacement, confirmation that you have installed security and for firearms, any change in your nominated land.

Due renewal

If your certificate(s) is due to expire within the next 12 weeks, you can submit your new address details on the renewal application form. Please ensure the form is submitted without undue delay. You do not need to send in your certificate(s) for amendment in these circumstances.

Timescale: From date of receipt providing there are no issues, we aim to issue a new certificate within 20 working days.

Fee: There is no fee to change your address.
